Alaska and American Airlines have decided to make some changes to their relationship as of January 1, 2018 as a consequence of this expansion. With American Airlines as a respected airline affiliate, many of the advantages our customers experience will remain available.

Make money with home travel: More than 1,100 U.S.-operated services are offered every day under Alaska "AS" numbers, which include a wide variety of services beyond U.S. hub locations such as Chicago O'Hare and Dallas/Fort Worth. Keep earning on all American Airlines international services, as well as services from the U.S. to Canada and Mexico, at the same rate you collect on these services today. Here too, members of the élite members of the Meleage Plans continues to collect élite qualification and élite reward points on these outings.

Members of the Membership Plans can continue to earn points on America Airlines national and international services to over 300 destinations in over 50 nations each year. Members of Alaska Lounge will continue to have more than 50 Admirals Club Lounge seats when they fly an Alaska or U.S. aircraft. This is for home travel:

As of January 1, 2018, you will no longer accumulate air miles on American Airlines non-Alaskan commercial home services, including all flight numbers beginning with the AA carrier number. This means you no longer collect Alaska Flight Kilometres for your home flight directly with American Airlines.

Alaska and Virgin America operate 80 per cent of the top trails that members of the Meleage Plans have traveled in the past and collected with Americans. Your responsibilities as a member of your fleet depend a little on the position of your home airport: When you are in the Pacific Northwest, with a few minor differences, don't accumulate frequent flyer miles on American Airlines out of the area.

When you are in California, Virgin America is an ideal way for you to keep accumulating frequent flyer mileage to major cities such as New York, Boston and Dallas, where U.S. travel stops.

When you are in other parts of the USA, you still have many qualified U.S. services with an Alaska "AS" ticket number to select from that can be turned on and off in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Phoenix. From January 1, you will no longer qualify for preferential embarkation, baggage allowance or seats on any U AE service.

Keep in mind that you can now get prioritized check-in, board-level and free baggage on Virgin America on many of the same lines that Americans fly, with privileged seat availability and main cabin select upgrade options that come later this year. Certain reward stages for American Airlines worldwide flight redemptions will increase and special fares for Central and South America and Asia will be canceled.

A Business/First-class Award from the 48 states to Hawaii, for example, will go 47,500 one-way to 40,000 one-way traveler miles if American Airlines book a flight after January 1, 2018.
