Everglades Airpark
The Everglades AirparkJust outside this 29 hectare air park are a number of environmental sensitized areas. Located just south west of Big Cypress National Preserve, the Airpark is encircled on three sides by the Everglades National Park water. Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve and Collier Seminole State Park are located in the south.
Gulf Visitor Center and National Park Ranger Station, within easy walk of the Airpark, offer kayak rental, touring and hiking boat docking. Rock prawns, bluefin prawns and manatees are common in the Waters of Chokoloskee Bay, which run along the western side of the Airpark. Seafood Festival draws tens of millions of people every year, and the Florida Department of Transportation puts the economic impact of Everglades Airport at just over $1 million a year.

The Airpark Company: The WINGS 10,000 Island Aero Routes, which are part of the Airpark, operate on a seasonal basis (November to May) and offer flights in an Alaska aircraft over the 10,000 island, the Everglades, the Keys or the Dry Tortugas. It is also available for Key West, Orlando, Daytona, St. Augustine and other popular Florida locations.
In 1947, Everglades City was home to the county headquarters and a large number of companies. As the Collier family's shop was thriving in Everglades City, the Collier family had to build an airfield in the city so they could enter every day from their home in Palm Beach.
It was used by civil aviation and used by the air force alongside individual aircraft. In December 1947, President Harry Truman was on site to devote the National Park at the International Airports. Shortly afterwards the company relocated to Naples together with the district headquarters.
In 1968, Collier County acquired the Everglades Airpark from the Colliers for $125,000 and operated the site until 1993, when the Airport Authority was formed to run the airpark. The Everglades Airpark, our "Eco-Tourism Airport", is today the goal for holidaymakers and adventure seekers who come from all over the world to go fishing, boating, camping and exploring the beautiful Everglades nature.
