Altogether, that's at least a $500 flight if you only have one hand luggage, one round flight, and want to chew something other than the bubble wrap you've been eating for three an hour - a cost far in excess of the $350 round flight the Keyes staff routinely find on full-service carriers that offer free baggage storage, meals, seating, and more.
"It is the peak of these charges - and the overpromising and underdeliveries - why carriers like Spirit have such a bad reputation because in the end it's just not a good deal," says Keyes. The Keyes is not the only flight deals analyzer to stay away from low-cost carriers. "Matthew Ma, co-founder of The Flight Deal, says: "We want to make sure that travellers, no matter which vehicle we use, are not in ache.
"The slogan of the deals website is even: "Just because it's a great rate doesn't mean it's a great price. The Flight deals then put most of the emphasis on value, and the site advertises airline flight codeshare deals with US carriers to collect mileage. The fact that the flight cost only six euro cent per kilometer is a figure that was invented after Matthew ruled that $300 was the most he wanted to spend to travel from New York City to Los Angeles.
