For this year's poll, which ran from August 2017 to May 2018, over 100 customers from different countries attended the conference. More than 335 airlines were surveyed this year and more than 20 million participants were surveyed.
Every participant is checked so that no double or invalid entry is entered. Clients rate their preferred carrier on a 1-5 rating basis according to three categories: Aeroplane cabin services, ground airports, in-flight products. Each of these catagories has a number of sub-factors that are rated by clients. Cabin Services will for example cover assessments on issues such as hostability, attention to detail, personnel linguistic proficiency and catering effectiveness; Ground Airports will cover assessments on hand baggage policies, ground handling, air ticket, check-in and pre-boarding processes.
In total there are 50 different customer rated classifications. For the tenth time in a row, AirAsia was named the world's best low-cost airline.
