Srilankan Airlines

Sri Lanka Airlines

Ceiling of SriLankan Airlines for sale again due to the promise of an India tourism boom. One year after the collapse of negotiations with the exclusive supplier TPG Capital, Sri Lanka has resumed the privatisation of the state-owned air company, which is burdened with at least one billion dollars in debts, following the due care and attention of the ailing air company. SriLankan Airlines Ltd. will be seeking provisional offers from the island's Treasury until September or October, said Mano Tittawella, an advisor to the Treasury, in an end-Monday interview.

He said there has been "quite serious" interest in the deal, and the authorities expect to be in discussions with at least two interested buyers by the first of next year's quarters. With SriLankan Airlines in competition with golf airlines such as Etihad Airways PJSC and Emirates Airline for clients in the domestic markets, years of loss have led the SriLankan Airlines authorities to look for a purchaser and propose to take over all the company's debts.

The last trial, which began in 2016, showed at least eight interested bidders. Emerirates owned 44 per cent of SriLankan Airlines until 2010, when the country's governments purchased the share after the end of a 26-year long Civil War. One of the main attractions of purchasing an air carrier in the tourism-dominated country is its location near India, the rapidly expanding air transport industry in the rest of the globe, where an aspiring mid tier flies more and more abroad for work and recreation.
