Taxis from the Baku International Airports to the centre of Baku - Baku Forum
Which possibilities are currently available for taxi services from the airports to the centre of Baku (and what do I have to pay attention to)? Suggestions for a reliable taxi service would also be very welcome. Riko09, In addition, an international shuttle service runs between the downtown area and the area. A one-way trip is 1.5 manats.
The route goes directly to the town centre (one stop in the Koroglu subway station). There you can comfortably travel by coach and underground anywhere in the inner town. These London cabs are a dirty piece of work. Figured 30 men and the rider said his gauge didn't work. I do however suggest that if a chauffeur is trying to bargain a rate, or is claiming a faulty counter, then go to the nearest taxi.
Too bad about this behavior, because a few hungry and disloyal people are a blemish for the otherwise good images of Baku. By the way, the costs for today's taxi from Old City to the airport in the same London cabs (this one with the counter working properly) were 16 men!
Is all taxi outside the terminals legal? Are there any particular looks of normal cabs (as they should all be colored either bright orange or white)? Yet, do they have different counts around the clock? Best of all, there is a mess at the airports and you will be attacked by cabs if you are the first metre away from the main office.
Arriving through the car park last night, I tried to get away from the taxi towing, but was finally pushed towards the line of lilac London cabs. Apparently these are the only taxi services available at the airports and should be measured. But none of the riders will add a working counter, and this is their default trick.
Finally I told (it was warm and unpleasant) the crowd of riders yelling at me and among each other that I would be paying 20 manats (if measured, the costs should be about 14-15 manats to the downtown). Then my bag was taken and (literally) thrown into the first taxi, and the riders then continued yelling at each other when it seemed obvious that the nominee did not want to take the ticket, but had to do so because he was at the top of his line.
Wellcome to Baku! Apparently, most hotel arrangements include a pick-up service from the airports, which can be a much more convenient one. I just got back from Baku. Take a "London" taxi from the aerodrome (violet taxi) to the old town. Because I didn't want to be cheated or have the counter activated and the rider made a circuitous route with me, I quoted 20 AZN (which I knew were above the normal price) --- in the end the rider took it.
Baku! Enjoy Baku! But the lilac taxi driver is obtrusive and disloyal and we were annoyed from the minute we went outside. None of the lilac taxis had running metres as described here and wanted 50, then 40. In the end we went back to the front of the house to get the help of an English-speaking police officer, but he quickly retreated as the taxi driver drove off with him!
After all, we couldn't get anyone (of about a dozen taxi drivers) to accept 15, so we took the bottom commandment of 20 and went into city. As we saw how beautiful, fashionable and well presented Baku is as a big cosmopolitan metropolis, it seems a pity that the first picture of a touristic person is to arrive at the port of Tangier and be attacked by morons!
