Today SriLankan Airlines announces that it will provide non-stop services from Columbo to 11 new destinations including Lahore, Jakarta, Dhaka, Muscat, Kolkata, Madurai, Varanasi and Bodh Gaya in India, Bahrain, the Seychelles and Gan in the Maldives. Columbo, October 30, 2016: The SriLankan Airlines Group is proud to announce the opening of 11 new destinations focused on the Asia Middle East area, one of the most rapidly expanding tourist destinations in the United States.

With the opening of the new destinations, the carrier is continuing its efforts to strengthen its footprint in the area and beyond. From Colombo, SriLankan will offer non-stop services to 11 new destinations: Lahore, Pakistan, Jakarta, Indonesia, Dhaka, Bangladesh, Muscat, Oman, Calcutta, Madurai, Varanasi & Bodh Gaya India, Bahrain, Seychelles and Gan, Maldives.

According to Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority figures, the Asia-Middle East Asia Territory attracted 923,338 Sri Lankan tourists out of a 1,798,380 visitor population in 2015. Among the 11 new destinations are those that attract travellers from businesses, recreation, work, pilgrimage and transits to and from Sri Lanka's worldwide railways.

With Kolkata, Madurai, Bodh Gaya and Varanasi, SriLankan Airlines becomes the overseas operator with the biggest global airport in India, one of the biggest tourist destinations in the globe, serving 11 major destinations with 106 weekly departures, rising from 88 to seven. For the second time in a row, Sri Lanka's award-winning air company was awarded "Best Full Service in Central and South Asia" at the Future Travel Experience Asia Awards 2016 in Singapore.

SriLankan, which has been the biggest Maldives carrier for many years with its flight to the Maldives, the country's main town, will be the only carrier to fly to Gan in the south of the group. Air traffic with the town of Lahore in Pakistan began three times a week on 27 September, with connections to Jakarta (4 flights), Dhaka (daily), Madurai (daily), Muscat (5 flights) and Calcutta (3 flights) commencing on 30 October, and to Bahrain (5 flights) on the following date (31 October), the Seychelles (4 flights), Varanasi (2 flights) and Bodh Gaya (31 October).

On 1 December, Gan Island (4 flights) in the Maldives will join the SriLankan hub, increasing the number of destinations to 102 in 47 different nationalities. All of SriLankan Airlines is a member of the renowned online worldwide airlines association, which links over a thousand destinations in 160 different states.
