Diplomatic Service - Debrett's
In the last hundred years, the very inflexible way of addressing diplomats has been superseded by a courteous but somewhat less respectful one. At the Vienna Congress of 1815, international recognized positions of diplomacy were united. The ambassador has the highest degree of diplomacy and the messengers are official officials of the head of state.
The ambassador's counterpart in the Commonwealth is usually the High Commission. An umbrella for a group of Diplomates resident in another district is a Diplomacy Mission. Every Diplomate who leads a Diplomacy Mission is referred to as a Leader of the Mission or Leader of the Head of the Mission. They' re usually messengers.
Ambassadorial diplomacy is the term used to describe a foreign policy conducted by an ambassador; High Commissariat is the term used to describe a foreign policy conducted by a High Commissary. The majority of ambassadors represents their governments in a singular state; "Ambassadors - Total" work in several (normally neighbouring) states, or in inter-governmental organizations. Under the ambassador in the ambassador's position in the political diplomacy are: ministers; council of ministers; advisors; first secretaries; second secretaries; third secretaries; attachés; assistants.
While an ambassador or a high-ranking diplomat is absent, a charge d'affaires leads the temporary foreign affairs team. When it comes to official ceremonies, the charge d'affaires has a lower rank than the ambassador. As a rule, attachés are consultative or managerial personnel who do not belong to the military services of their countries and are therefore provisionally "associated" with the missions.
Consuls are nominated to replace the governments of countries on the territories of other countries and are accountable for the well-being of the people of their own countries in other countries. Consuls differ from ambassadors who act on behalf of their heads of state abroad and deal with matters of bilateral diplomacy between the two states.
A Ambassador registered with the Court of St James's is awarded the His Excellency Styles in the United Kingdom and Colonies. Describing an ambassador by name and indicating the name of the respective state is always right. His Excellency Maurice Dansey, the ambassador of France, for example. Correctly and often it is better to use the adjective formula if it has been used for a long time, for example "His Excellency the Ambassador of Spain".
However, there is an increasing use of the country's name instead of its adjective counterpart, such as "The Jordanian Ambassador " instead of "The Jordanian Ambassador". However, there is an increasing use of the country's name instead of its adjective counterpart, such as "The Jordanian Ambassador " instead of "The Jordanian Ambassador". for example. Netherlands' is used in place of'Dutch' in British and Dutch speaking countries. In case of suspicion, contact the Ambassador's clerk.
It is customary in a message to an ambassador to include "Your Excellency" in the opening and final descriptions. An Ambassador from Britain who is registered in a non-UK land is referred to as "His Excellency" in the land in which he is registered (and often with politeness when traveling outside the land in service), but not in the United Kingdom.
You are always right to describe the High Commission by name and add the name of the respective nation, e.g. "His Excellency Pat Ayres, High Commission for* Australia". In case of suspicion, contact the clerk of the High Commissary concerned. It is customary in a post to a High Commissioner for " Your excellence " to be mentioned in the opening and final descriptions.
