It'?s just the less wealthy who drive the Gulf Streams these days. Well, I guess they don't. To the really wealthy, the personal jets of your choosing are a real joy. Recently Boeing supplied its Aeroloft, a tricky 747-8 developed by Greenpoint Technologies for a very wealthy one. Whereas the 747-8 only has an top level in the front part of the aircraft, the Aeroloft added a small seconds bottom in the rear.
In the attic there are eight beds and a dressing room "for a convenient place to relax during the flight". It' s perfect for a celebrity environment: the purchaser of this aircraft is a leader of the Near East. Deliveries of two more BBJ 747-8s with aeroloft are planned for 2012.
Whilst the price of Aerolft is not known, the base Boeing 747-8s sold for about 350 million dollars (loft not included). Aerloft is part of the new trends in large personal vehicles and jumbo jets. In fact, Airbus sells personalised version of its huge Airbus A380 personal jets. There is room for 600 people on the A-380 - or a Saudian princely, as one of the purchasers of the A380 was Alwaleed bin Talal.
The Prince Alwaleed aircraft is called the "Flying Palace" and has three deck, a full Turkic Moroccan bathroom, displays and computer-controlled praying mat, which always point to Mecca. It is not clear how many the aircraft is sleeping, although Alwaleeds travelling environment is said to be able to accommodate 26 of them. Aeroplane went on sale for more than $300 million - work in progress.
A previous part of this history described the new 747-8 as having three floors, with an attic between the first and second deck. Actually, the extra area is on the back of the aircraft, which has only two deck spaces.
