Birmingham Private Hire Knowledge test

The Trading Standards teams have designed a 3-hour course for private candidates wishing to obtain a license from us.

Attendance of the course is not obligatory, but will help you in preparing for the knowledge test. Access to Knowledge course does not warrant that you have passed the knowledge test with the Licensing section. It will help you, however, to get ready and give you the information you need to know. Course costs are 37 and our classes usually take place on a Thursday mornings, according to driver requirements.

Your credit/debit cards are required to make your reservation. Simply dowload and fill out the reservation sheet, send it to the email addresses on the sheet and click "Send". Enclose a check or money order for the 37 course pounds course charge to be paid to Birmingham City Council with your reservation request.

Our Phoenix House offices (address below) can be visited during business hour to reserve your seat. In our offices you can make payments by check, money order, credit/debit cards or in the form of payment in hand.

The guide contains all the information you need to request a Hackney freight or a private loan license. Before you contact the Bureau for a knowledge test, please review all information in the paper. Call us on 0121 303 8442 to make an appointment for the knowledge test.

We do this at our Ashted Lock office at Birmingham Science Park. The Trading Standards Trading Standards staff has created an "Access to Knowledge" course to help private candidates get ready for the knowledge test. They must pass a Conviction Disclosure Examination (DBS) and/or otherwise demonstrate their good nature as described in the Driver's Guide above.

After you have successfully completed the knowledge test, please fill in the required request forms and make an arrangement to take them with you along with the other documentation mentioned in the guided tour.
