Travelling by Taxi - Zones & Tariffs explains

The best way to find your way around the subway is to take a taxi. or you can call one to come for you. Taxi services are usually available at airports, hotel accommodation and important touristic sites. Travelling anywhere in San Juan, except to/from SJU International Airports and the Old San Juan pier, you will be charged the price shown on the counter.

The taxi fares are set and booked within the "tourist zones". The Puerto Rico Tourism Company provides a special taxi fare schedule from the San Juan area to the main attractions of the islands if you wish to take a taxi "on the island". Tourism in the agglomeration is subdivided into the following taxi zones:

Area 1 - Luis Munoz Marin (SJU) Airport. Tariffs between the different areas are as follows (one-way rates) PER TAXI, NOT PER PERSON: The above mentioned tariffs contain up to 5 persons. When there are more than 5 people, there is a fee of $2 per capita for the sixth and seventh people.
