Cheap Airport Cabs
Affordable airport cabsLiving in Barcelona, I have often taken a cab from the airport. Cab systems are a very highly regulatory industry in Barcelona. The fare for officially scheduled cabs is checked by IMET, the Metropolitan Tax Institute, which is dependent on the AMB (Barcelona Metropolitan Area). Especially at the airport there is no "cheapest way" to take a cab, but prices that are the same for all cabs.
A surcharge of 3.10 for a ride by airport taxicab and 1.00 for each item of baggage in the trunk is payable. There is then a fix fare for the route travelled and also a fix fare for the amount of travel made when the taxicab is stopped: you will see how these are calculated on the meter inside the cabin.
Please note that a ticket price of at least 20. You will always be billed 00 (including surcharges) for taking a cab at the airport. Please find more information about the IMET taxis on this website (in Catalan). Today the taxis industry is so tightly controlled that I find it very hard to get cheated.
You can see the drivers ID and the taxicab sign inside the cabin as you can see on the images of the IMET website. However, if you need to file a claim, you can always request a copy of the bill from the taxidriver.
It will contain all the information you need to complete the formal complaints forms that you must submit with your receipts to the following address: Institute Metropolità del Taxicab, 62 r er úm. 18 - Zona Franca - 08040 Barcelona. On this website you will find some useful information about the Barcelona airport taxis (note that this is an informal service).
However, the least expensive way to take a taxicab is not from the airport (which includes the above charges). The best way is to take the Aerobus which goes from the airport T1/T2 to Catalunya Place (city centre) and costs 5,90 (Way-Chepear as a taxi). You can then take a taxicab (there are many) and save on airport taxes (will still be much cheaper).
Unless you want to stay at the airport until 5 a.m. (when the subway opens) or if you arrive on Saturdays, when the subway is open all nights. When you really need to take a cab, you will find many of them and the fare at nights is around 30 to get to the centre of the town.
So the best way not to be cheated in just about every nation in the globe is to take a one metre cab and/or ask how much it will be before you go on so you know what to do. Drivers will know that they are giving you at least an estimate of what they should use.
Ask in advance what the price of a cab is but remember that rides at dark are usually more costly. Search in other queries with the tag taxiis barcelona barcn or ask your own query.
