Reservation of airlines - Definitions

A " flight reservation " is a legally valid agreement under which an air carrier agrees, for a certain amount of cash, to make available to a certain air traveler a seating on a certain flight from a certain airfield to another airfield. It is planned (but not guaranteed) that the aircraft will depart at a certain point in flight and land at its final location at a certain point in flight.

It depends on every single ticketing whether the flight reservation can be modified later (low-cost airlines are usually less agile in this respect). For example, someone can make a flight reservation with British Airways to take flight BA0055 from London to Johannesburg on 25 April 2008, leaving London Heathrow around 1905 and arriving at Johannesburg at 0650.

Below is a guideline for flight bookings, along with the reservation requests. Please specify the desired place when making your flight reservation, e.g. the window/aisle side. The reservation is possible from 10:00 a.m. and 330 workingdays before the date of the last return flight of your route. In order to look for the reservation date, please choose a date below.

Changing a flight reservation (with pictures)

When you travel by air and find that you need to alter the date or hour of your flight, charges apply. Sometimes, however, one cannot avoid the fact that the prejudices vary. Prepare with your initial route before making any changes to your flight. Once you have made your initial reservation on-line, you may be able to make changes to your reservation on-line.

It may be useful to speak with an operative who can help you make the necessary changes and answers your queries. Modify a flight reservation by access your reservation on-line or by contacting a tour operator with the carrier or tour operator you are using. Collect any confirmation numbers, receipt or other document with your flight information.

Verify that your flight is non-refundable. When your non-refundable airline seats are non-refundable, you will be charged an administration charge of approximately $150 plus the differential in your airline seatfare. No matter whether you need to leave or arrived another date or at another hour, be prepared to provide this information when you go on-line or speak to an operative.

Go to the website of the carrier where you made the reservation. When you have used an on-line site like Expedia or Orbitz, you have to call them. Search for a tabs labeled "My reservations" or "Change flights". Enter the necessary information, such as your last name, your verification number or your flight number.

You may be asked by some airline companies to check the name of the payment method you used to purchase the tickets. Please make a selection of the flight (s) you wish to modify. Now you can look for new planes. Click on "New flights" and click on the "Next" icon. Press "Next" or "Make changes" to validate your new flight.

Paid any extra charge or fee with a single debit key on the checkout page. Your flight reservation has been successfully modified. Find the details of the carrier or agent with whom you booked your flight. Familiarise yourself with new planes that might work for you before you call.

That saves you a lot of work. Search on-line for new routes or use the automatic services when you call the carrier. Give your name, your affirmation number and your initial travel plan to the call answering agents. Describe the changes you need to make, and if you have other planes in mind, divide them with the agents.

If I have an Air France reservation, I would like to update the date. Please make sure that you do not only delete your old reservation and reserve a new one, as you will be billed twice as much. Doing so may reduce the costs of changing your flight reservation.

Please try to limit your changes to one carrier. Changing carriers may require you to completely void your reservation and then rebook to a new carrier. Doing so may cost you more, and you may receive a refund for the carrier of your canceled flight instead of getting your cash back.
