The MetLife Stadium is an U.S. stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, 8 Miles outside New York City. Part of the Meadowlands Sport Complex, it is the home stadium for two National Football League (NFL) franchises: the New York Giants and the New York Jets.
MetLife Stadium is the stadium property of MetLife Stadium Corporation, a Giants and Jets JVV, which constructed the stadium on a New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority site using privately funded construction. New Meadowlands Stadium was opened in 2010. MetLife, an New York City-based insurer, purchased the stadium's names in 2011.
It was the most costly stadium ever built[9] at the opening with building costs of about 1.6 billion dollars. The MetLife Stadium is the only NFL stadium that has been used by two teams since the 2000s. When Giants Stadium was approaching the 30th anniversary, it became one of the older arenas in the NFL.
Those who were the smaller renters of the stadium (called "The Meadowlands" for jet games) tried to build their own stadium in Manhattan itself, the planned West Side Stadium. Initially planned as the capital stadium for New York's application for the 2012 Summer Olympics with 85,000 seating places, it was to be reduced to 75,000 seating places for the aircraft.
The West Side Stadium, however, would have needed substantial government funds, which broke down in 2005. Next, the Giants and the Jet Company formed a JV to construct a new stadium in which the two sides are equals. Whilst the stadium's façade is covered with lime brickwork at the bottom, the remainder of the stadium is characterised by an aluminium slat and glazing shell and internal light that can change colour according to which squad is currently competing blues for the giants and greens for the jet.
In contrast to the Giants Stadium, the MetLife Stadium can be re-configured for the Giants or Jet within a few acres. 19 December 2010: Philadelphia Eagles are making a big leap back against the Giants in what has become known as the New Meadowlands wonder, and are returning after defeating 38-31 by about eight-minute 31-10 in the 4th Quarter, offset by DeSean Jackson's match-winning point yield over the course of overtime.
The MetLife Stadium will host its first NFL play-off match, in which the Giants defeat the Atlanta Falcons 24:2[45] in an NFC Wild Card Match on their way to the Super Bowl XLVI series. WrestleMania 29 took place at MetLife Stadium on April 7, 2013, WWE's flagship year 29 sailing tournament. The MetLife stadium is also conceived for football.
In preparation for a game, the stadium uses recessed seats in the corner of the pitch plane to set up a FIFA approved football pitch. 58 ] This has enabled the stadium to stage several large football games internationally, although it is known for its extraordinary lines of sight[59]. On May 7, 2010, the first show matched between Mexico and Ecuador in front of 77,507 spectators.
Another football game between the United States and Brazil took place in the stadium on 10 August 2010. 60 ][61] The stadium housed another Friendlies between the United States and Argentina on 26 March 2011, which ended with a 1-1 tie and was seen by a sold-out 78,926 onlookers.
Rutgers organized the army's first collegiate soccer match at the new stadium on October 16, 2010, when the Scarlet Knights defeated the Black Knights in extra time 23-20. The first New York Classic Collegiate match took place in the stadium on 7 September 2012, when visitors to the USC Trojans defeated Syracuse Orange 42-29.
Three of Syracuse's home matches were moved from the Carrier Dome to the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey under the New York College Classic flag, where they lost all three; a forth was against Notre Dame in September 2014. Syracuse Orange Notre Dame held Dame Dighting Irish on 27 September 2014 at their 4th New York College Classic, which was attended by 76,802 people.
The Meadowlands Arena was used for the MetLife Arena prior to the launch of MetLife Jam Series. MetLife Stadium's first ever single jam tournament took place on June 16, 2012. Since then, it has come back every year on 15 June 2013, 14 June 2014, 13 June 2015, 23 April 2016, 17 June 2017 and 12 May 2018.
This stadium should hold its first Jam World Final, the World Final 20. Announcements were made that the show would be leaving the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas to begin a rotation plan, beginning with the MetLife Stadium. XCXTaylor Swift's Reputation Stadium Tour[112]165,564 / 165,564 (100%)$22,031,386Swift was the first woman performer in our story to make headlines and sold out three successive shows in the stadium.
The stadium has been the capital of Electric Daisy Carnival's Stop, a two-day event for electric musicians, in the New York metropolitan area since 2012, with electronica artists such as Armin Van Buuren, Hardwell, Porter Robinson and Tiësto.
