Hawker Beechcraft's story began in 1994 when Raytheon combined its Beech Corporation and Raytheon Corporation Jets businesses. Raytheon divested the corporation to a syndicate of Goldman Sachs and Onex Corporation in 2006.

By April 2012, it had fallen into arrears with interest and breached its bank obligations, leading to widely spread rumours that it would go bankrupt. Beech Aircraft Corporation became a Raytheon affiliate on 8 February 1980. In the middle of September 1994 the Beech Aircraft Corporation and the Raytheon Corporate Jet were combined to Raytheon Aircraft.
