The Logan International Airport with the cheapest airfare for tens of years despite record-breaking traffic, according to an Airline for America study.

There is good information if you hope to travel from Logan International Airport this summer: Despite the high level of flight enquiry, air fares have not been as low as they have been for years. This good news comes from an analyst report by Airlines for America, a group dedicated to the protection and healthcare of the U.S. aviation community.

Airlines for America recently uncovered in its latest study that the Boston area has seen a significant rise in traffic, while prices are at an all-time low. Logan's annual inland fare was US$ 344.21 in 2017, down 35.5 per cent from 2000 when it was corrected for the effects of price increases, according to the Airlines for America survey.

All-in" prices, inclusive of per diem charges, have fallen 32 per cent to an annual mean of $365.14, according to the study, which was an insight into the operations of Airlines for America (A4A) in Massachusetts. "The Massachusetts travellers who fly into the sky this summers are benefiting from unprecedented fare records in the area and the increasing competitive pressure from low-cost and ultra-low-cost airlines serving more destination than ever before," said A4A vice president and chief economist John Heimlich.

Logan's low tariffs come with a significant rise in traffic and more destination numbers, said Airlines for America. Logan has added more than 580 flight tickets and 162,000 free places per annum since 2007. During the same time frame, 12 non-stop and 16 international destination were added, said Airlines for America.

In the last 10 years, the number of annual Logan passenger flights has risen by 36 per cent to 18.7 million in 2017, and the number of airlines operating at the airports has nearly doubled from 25 in 2007 to 42 in 2018, according to the study. Trend-following the "enormous increase in flight demand" in Massachusetts, said Airlines for America.
