Good news: You could still get a big rebate this sommer if you look abroad. "We have seen lower fares in international destinations where new airways have been opened, or low-cost airlines have been expanding and there has been more competition," said Adam Goldstein, Hipmunk's CEO. In order to find out which international towns tend to be less expensive, Hipmunk analysed the reservation dates of trips bought between 1 January and 14 April - with departures and arrivals in June, July or August - and compares them with the same reservation windows of the previous year.

Overall, international outward and return fares are slightly higher on a year-on-year basis - an increase of one per cent - but Hipmunk has found several international towns offering good deals. "Singapore has a special season this summers when consumer demands are rising and price levels are down 30 per cent year-on-year," says Kelly Soderlund, Hipmunk Magazine's editorialist.

Hipmunk has estimated the number of return trips this year from the USA to the following five international destinations, which are well below last year's averages. Singapore is chosen by more travellers than ever before, as the Singapore Tourism Board reports with 17.4 million arrivals in 2017, a figure that is a record-breaking figure.
