The JetLite is a cost-effective Jet Airways subsidiary[3] formerly known as Air Sahara until it was acquired by Jet Airways, which renamed it JetLite. Founded on 20 September 1991, the company started operating on 3 December 1993 with two Boeing 737-200s as Sahara Airlines as part of the large Sahara India Pariwar group.

At first, the service was mainly focused on the Nordic sector of India, with Delhi being retained as the basis, and then the operation was expanded to the whole state. On 2 October 2000, Sahara Airlines was renamed the company under the name: Air Sahara, although Sahara Airlines remained the company's name.
