Travellers at Dallas Fort Worth Airport can be pleased to learn that in some cases it is less expensive to go to Iceland than to El Paso. DFW Airport is entering a new low-fare travelling epoch this year: Three carriers now offer a non-stop flight to Reykjavik, Iceland - inclusive of return flight fares, which sometimes cost only US$ 99 per leg.

Icelandair and Wow in Iceland will commence flights by the end of the current year. At the beginning of June, American Airways, headquartered in Fort Worth, will take up its flight to Reykjavik. Starting from Reykjavik-Keflavík International Airport (KEF), the three companies will provide services to 39 European and Middle Eastern airports.

It is a great way to use Iceland as a starting point for a journey to places like Paris, possibly for only $149 per leg. "Capturing three destinations to this lovely new route demonstrates the strong growth in international traffic to and from North Texas," said John Ackerman, DFW Chief Operating Officer and DFW Chief Operating Officer, John Ackerman, in an e-mail.

American and Icelandair will delight clients with advertising deals, but it's really Wow Aire that is changing the ingame. While Wow is already known for some surprisingly low rates - but since Wow's Wow is a little (actually, a lot) different from other carriers, these cheap basements could also give serious headsaches to travellers who are not ready for the traps.

In particular, Wow Air's low fare rates mean that travellers have to charge luggage charges for just about anything bigger than a handbag or small rucksack. In addition, meals and beverages - including hot and cold running water are available at an additional charge. While these things can be little nuisances on a home trip, it's another tale when you're on a seven-hour nocturnal trip.

"If you begin to add these charges, a low-cost airline can be more expensive than booking with American," Cosgrove said. "When you go to Europe and your brothers live there, and all you have to do is grab an additional T-shirt and lingerie, and take your own bottles of wine and cereal in your bag, a cheap airfare can work for you," he said.

Below are some hints that are specifically for Wow and Wow respectively, which was established in 2011 and will be operational at DFW on 24 May, with a three-way weekly flight (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays) arriving in Iceland at 4:45 a.m. CET. The charges for other carry-on baggage range from $49 to $99, based on how large they are and when they are purchased (online or at the airport).

Luggage can be $69 to $99, and charges are made for each stage of a journey. A look at Wow air's website, for example, shows that a journey from DFW to Reykjavik on 5 July, which was book on-line, would be $127 per journey for one single passenger per flight, with only a small amount of hand luggage permitted.

But for $235. 72, the same traveller can take along a person hand baggage, a second small hand baggage and a piece of baggage with him. And for $339.99 (still much cheaper than a normal daily rate to Europe), the same fare covers all these pockets for free, additional legroom and cancelation shelter. Naturally it is okay to buy meals and beverages at the airports and take them on board.

When your trip is cancelled, you may not be able to get out of Texas for a few nights, which can severely disrupt your plan on the other side of the city. Although the potential for delay and cancellation on American Airways and other airline companies is always present, American Airways is part of a wider airline travel agency that can find places on other airline companies or perhaps get you to your ultimate goal by guiding you from DFW through one of its many other major routes in Europe.

Reykjavik as an intermediate goal is a nice thing about this new low-fare tendency on flights to Europe. However, don't be taken by surprise by the price of many Icelandic goods. Like the name implies, it is the most important Icelandic carrier established in 1937. An example: a journey from DFW to Reykjavik on 5 July would be $250.

This fare may cover a free stop in Iceland for up to three night's stay, excluding hotels, meal services, etc. Forty fares instead are $295.40. Forty fares, known as "Economy Flex", you can get a free check-in pocket, in-flight catering and Wi-fi and a redeemable fare without changing.

The flights with a Boeing 757-200 with 183 passengers leave at 16:20. And American Airlines? Fort Worth-based airline (and the biggest in the world) will start operations in Reykjavik on 7 June. Looking at American's website, a sightseeing tour from DFW to Reykjavik starting on 5 July and ending on 13 July is available for 711 dollars.

This fare comprises two meal per trip and one free piece of luggage.
