The City of Prague is trying to eradicate this poor image, and the taxi's are spot-checked by a specialised policing unit, but this has not eliminated the issue.

Even today, there are still a large number of taxi riders who take advantages of first-time Prague residents and travel longer distances or even go as far as changing counters to travel quicker.

So if you are traveling during rush hour, the journey from the airport to the center of town may take 45 min, and the end cost is higher than for a journey in the early evenings or early mornings.

Default rate for the center of the town is about 600 Czech crowns and you should not exceed 700 Czech crowns. It' s good to know that there are significant tourist accounts of airport cabs trying to deceive travellers with some poor practice of increasing taxi surcharges. It is one of the most common cases that the taxi rider will take a longer distance to the center of the center of the city or deliberately choose a busy stretch where you will be billed for the wait.
