do taxis?? i'm trying to plan for an forthcoming journey. e.g. from becant parc to times sqare or cent ral parc to broadcastway. my query is like generally how much for say 8-10 blocs. So I wanted to see how much a taxi ride costs.

Taxis are measured and strongly controlled. The starting fee is $2.50 and each subsequent device (1/5 miles or driving cabin hours, 60 seconds) is the way the ticket price is calculated. Eight to ten units could be $4.00 or so over the range or more, based on how much travel is made. Keep in mind that the rider should be given a tip of at least $1.00 for shorter journeys.

A taxi will no longer bill you if you are a traveler, but there is an auto supplement of $2.00 (which is the correct term) if you get into a taxi.

I think it's sometimes more difficult to find an empty taxi than it's rewarding. For example, Bryant Park to Times Square is very simple on the coach and I would never think of doing it by taxi.
