Pending the completion of the verification and the adoption of the necessary rules, the city has asked Uber to discontinue its Uber X APP in Brampton.

Did the city charge you with illegally taking a ride? In February 2016, when the Council called for the closure of the Brampton plant, the town launched 21 lawsuits against passengers. How high were the penalties imposed on carpoolers? The city does not determine these penalties. So why do they continue to run carpooling in Brampton when they're not?

It is currently revising its statutes in order to establish a competitive environment for all car owners (taxis, limousines, car pools). It is important to remember that while license is boundary-based, it is not user-based. That means that a Toronto inhabitant (where carpooling is licensed) can use a carpool to go to Brampton. Once Brampton's new statutes are in place, there will be more transparency as to which Brampton licensees are in place and how the city will implement them.

Exactly what is participating in the license verification proces? City reviews the statutes in a two-step procedure. In the first stage, in autumn 2017, the city will make suggestions for changes to its existing licencees (the taxi and sedan industry). During the second stage, the employees will examine the possibility of obtaining a license from the carpooling sector.

Personnel advice will be presented to the Council in early 2018, after having been first debated with the taxicab Advisory Committee. From whom does the city collect contributions? Contributions come from a number of areas, among them advice to the taxi and limousine industries, car pooling, the general public via an on-line questionnaire and good practice benchmarks with other local authorities.

Any contributions received will be taken into account when making suggestions for amendments to the Statutes. The city has been gathering contributions from various interest groups since the 2016 Summer. Further consulting sessions with the taxi industy are scheduled for this sommer. Employees will also develop a reworked work schedule and a consultative process for the carpooling sector this year.

It will be presented to the Advisory Committee of Zurich in September for the first time. All information gathered will be used to prepare a Council proposal with proposals for changes for the taxi and sedan industries. Employees will also make a suggestion as to whether they want to licence rides or not. Personnel are expected to present a briefing to the Council in autumn 2017 with advice for the taxi and sedan industries.

Are you going to make any changes in the taxi business? On the basis of the 2016 consultations with the taxi industries, at the end of 2016 the Council endorsed a number of Taxicab Advisory Committee proposals on taxi accessibility taxis regarding taxi driver education, tests in French and German and vehicle ages. Are you going to license carpools like a taxi or are you going to license them separately?

We have seen that some communities decide to license car pools and check the demands on cars and people. During the second stage of the investigation, the definition of the license for car-sharing carriers will be specified. How should the consumer take advantage of carpooling?

Currently, carpooling in Brampton is not licenced, so it is recommended that you conduct your research and be clear about issues related to security, coverage and customers' issues in the case of an incident or other support problem.
