Featuring a load capacity of 73,000 kg (160,000 pounds) and an original cruising height of 8,500 metres (28,000 ft), the C-17 has an approximate cruising distance of approximately 2,400 sea-mile ( 4,400 kilometres) with the first 71 planes and more than 2,800 sea-mile ( 5,200 kilometres) with all following long-haul model airplanes including a gasketed central section as refueling area.
