What's this cab going to cost me?
You scared that if you take a taxi, you might get a lift? Recently I came across an interesting chart published by a red member "badgraphs" who analysed ~1,000,000,000 NYC Green cabin trips from January 2015. It was his aim to guess the "effective fare for an avarage New York taxi ride" ($/mile).
There'?s a copy of his graphic below: It was interesting (especially because I had no clue that this detail was available from all NYC Yellow Cabs!), and the combined graphics and presentation answer many queries about the same. However, I was wondering if I could make a better chart that was somewhat more self-explanatory and didn't need an companion piece to help the user know what was going on in the chart.
Instead of using line regressions and the like, I chose to let the information talk for itself, and I found it useful to colour the information with the CouncilCodeID. Colouring will help in explaining some of the visible characteristics in the diagram. I hope these graphics will give you a useful idea of your taxi journeys in the near term.
If you have acces to information from other towns (or other driving service like Uber or Lyft), I think it would be very interesting to see graphics of these dates and comparing them with these NYC Yellow Cab graphics.
