Latest 12-in MacBook vs. 11-in MacBook Air (2015)
Apple last months heralded the launch of a MacBook Air with Retina Display...but it's simply referred to as "the new MacBook". "Apple also heralded a new release of the iconic MacBook Air, which is now essentially Apple's budgeted laptop (although no MacBook is really "budget"). New MacBook is 3 per cent bigger and 6 per cent smaller than 11-in MacBook Air.
However, one of the killers of the new version is that it is 23 per cent slimmer than the already slim MBA. Although the new MacBook has a larger display, it's 15 per cent lighter than MacBook Air. It' s a little different this year, but the new MacBook still has a single aluminium body.
New MacBook is a whole new look, and while the interior of MacBook Air has been upgraded every year, the exterior hasn' t really moved since the end of 2010. The two laptops have Apple's superior optical tracking technology onboard, but the new notebook uses the new Force Touch technology - the sensor and tactile response - to make the motionless touchpad move (see our Retina MacBook Pro Test 2015 for more information).
It' s the first ever MacBook in several colours that Apple has ever offered. For the new 12-inch MacBook, you can select between sterling silver, room grey or golden. This new MacBook gives you about 13 per cent more display than this 11-in MacBook Air. If you' re inquisitive, the new model offers about 19% less display than Apple's 13-inlays ( MacBook Air and Retina MacBook Pro).
Not only is the new MacBook lightweight and slimmer, it puts a retina display in an ultra-light Apple laptop. It' s about 67 per cent brighter than the MacBook Air it has. There is also a Core i7 custom setup that you can select for MacBook Air. There' also a range of quicker Core M setups for the new MacBook.
The new MacBook comes with 8GB of memory, while only Air configured devices leap up to 8GB. And the new Air begins with 256GB of memory, while the entry-level Air offers half of it. MacBook Air also has a better built-in graphics processor.
You can' t add a discrete SD memory device (such as the Transcend JetDrive Lite) to this because there are no SDXC slot locations in view. Yes, Apple has only one built-in MacBook portal. You can also use this USB-C connector to charge your new MacBook. This means that you can easily lose the notebook's power supply if you connect it to an outside harddisk or SD-Connector.
Air gives you a Thunderbolt haven, even though the default seems to be on its way to becoming obsolete (not that it has ever really prevailed). None of them have an HDMI connection, but the MacBook's USB-C is native to DisplayPort, while the MacBook Air's Thunderbolt is native to Mini DisplayPort. MacBook Air offers you a high-resolution cam.
New MacBook Air was unveiled after Apple's last March show. New MacBook expected to be shipped on April 10. MacBook Air has a latest-generation screen and is not as lightweight and thin, but it has a few benefits. However, if you switch to the same 256GB of disk space as your new MacBook, the Air is only $200 less.
