Application for or extension of a license for privately owned landlords

PHO (Private Fire Operator) license is needed to receive reservations and ship rental cars to clients. The licenses are granted to one person and are specifically for the location of a licenced rental station. Licenses are not assignable to anyone, company or any other adress.

Reservations for privately rented cars must be made through their PHO licenced reservation agent, known as "operator base". The PHO reservation service can be operated either from home or from government agencies. In the case of renewal requests, you must make sure that the mission is carried out before the licence expires. You must specify the Cambridge location from which you wish to perform surgery. A basic disclosure must be made for any new or renewed candidate (who is NOT already an authorised Cambridge City Council driver). DBS check will take three years. In order to run a privately owned cab operator, you must obtain a building permit to make sure that your operator, when run from home, does not cause harassment or disability to your neighbors.

When your car is designed for up to eight persons, a personal operator's license of the municipality is enough. For all more than eight seating places, the licence must be obtained from the VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency).
