Transportation service regulations are changing the way taxis are arranged at Helsinki Airport.

In Finland, the new Taxis Act came into force on 1 July 2018. This means some changes for the consumer, which can also be seen at the airports. With the new legislation, the taxi rules were relaxed. Due to de-regulation, passenger counters are no longer compulsory and the cost of a trip may vary according to the date or even hour.

Another clear amendment relates to the type of cars that can be used as taxi cars. Well, now that the Act has come into effect, a taxi can be a lightweight four-wheeler, truck or three-wheeled car. Before the new legislation came into effect, for example, only Vantaa taxi services could collect Vantaa residents from the airports.

After the deregulation of the contest, any taxi driver can go to the airports to await clients whenever he wants, and select a taxi that will show its prices to the public on the taxi stand's illuminated signs and will respect the limit set in the call for tenders. Taxi are always available at the taxi stands, even at nights and during rush hour. The cars are low-emission and the driver speaks several different tongues.

Taxi stops are in front of the terminals. However, the site had to be moved from the front of the terminus to the former short-term car park so that all taxi cars awaiting clients at the airports could pass. Four taxi tracks replace the simple taxi snake.

Only the taxi firms that have won the tender (Lähitaksi, Vantaan Taksi and Taksi Helsinki) can use the three nearest traffic lanes out of the terminals. Four's for other cabs.
