An Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Beginners Guide (2017.5 Update: Finnair (AY) added as new partner)

22.05.2017 Update: Alaska Air has added Finnair (AY) as new affiliate (official announcement)! While you can already collect AS-Meiles on Finnair, it is not yet possible to redeem them. The Finnair premium trip comes this autumn. The Alaska Airlines is a US-based carrier headquartered in Seattle that serves over one hundred routes in North America.

The majority of my inland trips take place on the east coast, so I can't get to them as often, but when I do, I like to go with them. So I write all my affiliate trips to Alaska well and often take advantages of their mileage deals.

In this article, we will discuss the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan highlight and some essential information to familiarize you with the programme. I like the Alaska Airlines mileage plan: You do not pay additional petrol supplements (except for British Airways and Hainan Airlines).

Your mileage can be used in many ways for trips in all cabin types and areas. Let's take a close look at how to deserve, compose and browse your website. As well as accruing points with Alaska Airline, you can collect points by traveling with one of the 19 airline partners. The Mileage Plan provides 3 levels of élite status:

If you fly with Alaska or one of its airline partners, you can collect AA points by having your account number. On top of the basic accrued mileage, you can collect additional 50%, 100% and 125% more. Alaska' top rating, I think, merits a brief debate because it gives you certain advantages when you fly with airline partners.

This is the most convenient discount for affiliates like American where you can get prioritized boards, free baggage or even seating up-grades. Given the recent meanness of AA when it comes to premium unavailability, I particularly like the fact that I can collect something other than AAdvantage mileage. Please note: Since April 20, 2017 Alaska and Delta are no longer affiliated carriers.

In order to be honest, if you are able to travel and pay enough to reach top animal AA level, the benefits you get and the system-wide upgrades you can deserve can be more rewarding for you. However, if you are a medium-sized flier like me and are tired of the terrible accessibility of AAs premiums, Alaska can open the doors to more thrilling premium possibilities.

Your élite rating also allows you to benefit from several other airline companies. The use of credits is one of the simplest ways to collect Alaska mileage. Bank of America's face-to-face and corporate programs provide 30,000 Alaska points after spending $1,000 in the first 90 trading day. Shopping on Alaska Airways or Virgin America earns 3 points per dollars, while all other shopping earns 1 point per dollars.

The Alaska Airlines is a Starwood Preferred Guest Programme member. The SPG Points will be transferred to Alaska at a 1:1 rate, but for every 20,000 SPG Points you transmit, you will earn 5,000 points in bonuses for the Reception Programme. So, if you transferred 20,000 SPG points to Alaska, you would earn 25,000 Alaska mileage.

So long as you transmit in steps of 20,000 points, you can actually handle each SPG point as 1.25 Alaska mile. What map should I use? The SPG may be the smarter choice if you are a serious donor, as the money you get from the SPG can really increase your revenue.

The SPG also offers you the opportunity to assign points to other carriers. Don't get me wrong, alaska airline is a sound transport company, but I'm just scraping the canvas. Unless you're a big financier, Bank of America tickets may be a better option as the sign-up bonuses are less stringent.

And, unlike SPG, Bank of America allows you to get the sign-up benefit more than once, even if you've previously earned the map and the benefit. While there are mechanism in place to stop you from taking advantage of this occasion, it is not unusual to get more than one reward on the Alaska Airlines map.

Blink your online credits and collect Alaska Points by eating in them. I' m just linking my plastic and forgetting it. From time to time I eat unwittingly in a competing eatery and collect points! In this way I don't let points and leagues affect my everyday choices too much.

Please note: Other airline companies also offer restaurant programmes. All you have to do is use one single payment method for each of them. Mileage Plan allows you to collect Alaska Points by browsing the Mileage Plan website before buying from your favourite retailers. Although Alaska does not form an airline group, it has many partners:

On the Alaska Airlines website, choose "Mileage Plan" at the top and then "Book Award". Each available ticket shows its own kilometre costs, followed by tax and charges. The layout of the mileage costs of your trip and the associated charges. Fortunately, Alaska Airlines does not impose any additional charges (with the exceptions of British Airways and Hainan Airlines).

It is not possible to operate several partners to your destinations. Sometimes this can be an annoyance as you may find room for your goal by putting together available segment on more than one carrier. However, you can have Alaska on your travel plan with a preferred carrier. In Alaska, there is a single premium overview for each affiliate carrier.

This is the kind of price I like because you can look around for the carrier that best suits your needs for the itinerary. If you are going to Korea/Japan, for example, AA would be the least expensive alternative as they charge off-peak prices at 25K points per one-way mile. Cathay Pacific would provide the lowest 30K mil value available during prime periods.

If you really like to shower, Emirates First Classic is also an optional extra for 180K mileage. And one of the best features of the mileage plan is the possibility of making one-way stops. However, this function is restricted to a certain degree as you cannot combine partners. In most cases, your intermediate stop will be the hubs of the affiliate carrier you are chartering (e.g. if you fly with Cathay Pacific, your stop will probably be in Hong Kong).

In order to make a reservation with these carriers, you can call Alaska Airline reservation number 1-800-252-7522.

Mileage expires 24 month after your last session.
