BBJ 747-8: Buyers and Investors Guide

BBJ 747-8 is the biggest available BBJ and can virtually travel between two different towns in the globe. A 747 incurs huge ownership and operation expenses - but those who can buy a 747 are unlikely to be deterred by the running expenses. BBJ 747-8 can carry 100 travellers up to 8,875 nm (16,437 km) - far enough to connect almost any two major city in the globe.

It can fly between Sydney and New York as well as between London and Adelaide without refueling. It is also able to cross at Mach 0.84 (914 km/h), which makes London to Los Angeles a 9-hour trip of 30 minutes. With the BBJ 747-8 this is not always the case.

Teterboro and Van Nuys are two of the most important European cities in the world. The airplane's mass and the amount of take-off and landing runways required to run from a length of at least 7,500 feet exclude them. When you can daydream (and afford) it, almost anything can be put into a BBJ 747-8. The main determinant of these configuration is whether the airplane is used for public service or for UHNWIs.

An OEM delivers a "green" plane to a client without an inside. Boeing will then take the plane to one of 15 execution centers that have been licenced by Boeing to plan and deploy the passenger compartment. That means there are no off-the-shelf interiors or styles, so owner and designer can get really imaginative with the cab.

Among the characteristics are shower facilities, an elevator from the airfield to the plane, majlis and winding stairs between terraces. Interiors and interiors are infinite and can therefore change greatly depending on the airplane and individual taste of the owners - something to consider when buying a used BBJ 747.

In case you do not like the tastes of the former owners, it is always possible to renovate the cabins according to your tastes - for an extra charge. Since January 2018, Boeing has supplied 11 BBJ 747-8s, 6 of which are currently in operation. Both the Qatar Amiri Flight and the State of Kuwait run the plane.

747-8 was chosen as a substitute for the United States Air Force's 1989 Airlift Wing - the plane used by the US Air Force Chairman - generally known as Air Force One (although this is the callsign assigned to an airplane only when the Chairman is on board).

Of course, the ownership and operation of a privately owned jump plane is not inexpensive. A new BBJ 747-8 has a listed fare of $367 million - but these costs only apply to a "green" plane - one without interiors. Obtaining an indoor space that is both designed and fit, usually adds a further $25-$50 million, depending on what properties are attached and how the indoor space is designed.

Installing an indoor space can take up to two years. Running a BBJ 747-8 costs an estimated $23,000 perhour - but if you can buy your own 747, these costs are insignificant.
