Cabmen push for tough action against "pirates".
Glasgow taxi riders have demanded a raid on "pirate" cabins that collect unlawfully from the streets without previous reservation. Negro taxi driver and personal loan driver were warning that the buccaneers were endangering their existence and the population. Unite CDU/CSU said it was "deeply concerned" about the illicit recruitment.
The Glasgow City Council asked the riot control authorities to notify the prosecutor's office of illegal tabbies. Whilst official taxis allow persons who have not made a reservation to take along with them, personal rental vehicles are limited to those with a pre-arranged reservation. He said that the counterfeiters violated the limitations of the driving license and declare the motor vehicle policy invalid by working in this way.
"Approaching my home, I asked them if they could take me home without making a reservation. "A few riders were somewhat reluctant, but it wasn't long before they determined that it was okay to take me. "She added: "I was said no several times, so we should stress that not all riders were prepared to violate the rules on renting privately.
" City Councillor Alex Wilson said Glasgow City Council had raised penalties for riders using illicit vehicles for trading. "But the convenor of the permit board asked the cops to tax irregular taxi riders so that they could get a point penalty for their driver's license.
"and I think between us, Unite and Police Scotland, we need to give the Prokurist a note that we would rather see a point system for capturedrivers. "Steven Grant is cabin section secretary at Unite and runs a private taxi.
"Glass Gow has always had significantly more per capita personal car rentals (PHVs) than any other town in Scotland and Britain, with the sole exclusion of London. "Mr Grant believes that the current climate has a major economical effect on both taxi operators and hire car owners. "We' re out there legally working under the terms of our licenses, and we have these guys - opportunity men - waitin' to rob the op.
"It' s incredibly perilous because you have someone who is willing to violate their license terms, cancel their policy, and there is room for more crimes. "Joe, a personal motorist, is denying that he ever took cash from a rental shop. However, he can understand why riders could be seduced by offers on the road.
"By the end of the afternoon, when the rider is fighting to nourish children and put power in the counter, when someone goes to them and says, "Here's 80 pounds," they think, if these pirates are going to take the cash, why not use these guys who are willing to toss cash at me to make the cash I just dropped?
"But, really, riders who do this right now, illicitly, it's absolutely gross. "The Scottish police said they would keep working with the Council's license division to address the matter. "It is a license dispute, and as such we have contacted Unite and the Glasgow City Councillor who have taxi enforcers in their license division.
"It is our responsibility to receive reports of occurrences and we urge individuals to get in touch with us if they have seen an illicit taxi ride or have information about it. "Humans should be mindful of the risk associated with the use of an illicit taxi, which may include a driver who is not subject to inspection or has no medical coverage.
Certified taxi operators are screened to make sure they are in good shape and capable of showing the general public around."
