Let us consider the history of the ancient maths of Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920). Once his boyfriend G.H. Hardy (1877-1947) noticed that the taxi he had taken had a "boring" number-1729 or 7 x 13 x 19. As Ramanujan quickly pointed out, 1729 is actually a "very interesting" number. It is the smallest integer that can be expressed as the total of two dice in two ways:

13 + 123 as well as 93 + 103 correspond to 1729. As the first publication to refer to this characteristic of the whole number 1729 is in the papers of the late Bernard Frénicle de Bessy (1605-1670) from the seventeenth centuries.

Over and Lyft have depleted the value of New York's classic taxi.

Everybody quite accurately believed that the appearance of Uber and Lyft in New York would give the yellows a case of blue taxi. New figures now show how much riding tailing digitally has depleted the value of the city's classic taxi. Crain' s New York Business reported that the value of taxi cabs - the nearly 13,600 metal licences strictly controlled by the town and allowing local taxi drivers to charge fare on the street - has dropped off a rock in the last three years, from about $1.05 million in 2014 to $241,000 for a locket shipped in March this year.

Passenger numbers and revenues for yellows are also declining, although the image is not nearly as cruel. Last year, the number of taxi rides decreased by 11% to 123.7 million and revenues by 9% to 1.8 billion dollars. Morgan Stanley respondents last summers estimate that the overall proportion of journeys made by taxi in 2015-2016 had fallen from 84% to 65%, leaving mainly Uber, but also its rivals Lyft, Via and Gett, with the overall proportion of taxi journeys made by taxi in 2015 to 65%.

It is still a sharp drop, but far from the lowest selling March locket there was. According to the TLC, the cost of lockets rose continuously in the year 2000, partly due to higher revenues from ticket-raising. However, the crowd of new car-sharing agencies is struggling for tariffs, and rivalry has made increasing prices inconvenient.
