Find information on how to obtain a Personal License, which includes renewal of an established Hackney Carriage and Personal License. The licence authorises the use of the car for personal rental purpose by an Nottingham City Council licenced operating company or, in the case of a Hackney Carriage, for rental within the city limits of Nottingham.

Depending on the car's ages, the licence you obtain when you request first registration and the tests you have to carry out may vary. With regard to Hackney Carriages, requests for substitution of an already registered car will not be considered if the substitution car is more than seven years old, unless the car is in an exceptionally safe state.

1-year license. Licence for 6 months. Cars between 3 and 5 years of age must submit to and survive an Exceptional Condition Vehicle Check (ECVC) at the registration office - a charge of £10 - before registering for the TÜV test. First registrations for privately rented cars will not be processed.

NB: The date of "first registration" entered in the V5 document is the date used by the Council in respect of the date of arrival of the car. The following form must be completed and obtained from the Licensing Office, Byron House, Maid Marian Way, Nottingham NG1 06HS or by calling 0115 915 6571.

The application form must be filled in by the claimant himself and must be accompanied by the following originals and fees: (If the car has recently been bought and the approval certificate is at DVLA Swansea, the claimant must submit evidence of title, i.e. a receipt for the purchase invoice containing all information about the car, seller and purchaser data and the approval certificate (V5) upon receipt).

Please note: An attestation of ownership will not be acceptable for privately rented vehicles where both the official and the privately rented contract are indicated on the documents.

Once the application documents have been completed and submitted to the approval authority, a date is agreed for testing the car in accordance with the TÜV standards at the TÜV plant in Eastcroft. When the application form is submitted, the Licensing Office issues a calendar with the date and place of the examination.

Vehicles should be fully ready for the test in good time and presented at the TÜV stop at least 10 min before the test. In the event of cancellation less than 24 h before exam start date or delayed participation, a charge will be made and a new exam start date will be set and an additional exam charge will be made.

Upon successfully completing the test, a test report (and copy) confirmed by the inspector is generated and stored in the TÜV and approval data base and data base. Hackney Carriages attach a number sign to the front and back mounts of the car and an inner number sign to the front seat passengers compartment.

In the case of personal cars, a number is affixed to the holders on the front and back of the car and an inner number is affixed to the windshield at the top of the windshield above the vehicle's revenue sign. In the event that a car does not meet the test, an inspection certificate will be drawn up showing what the car broke down, and the numberplates will not be given out until the points of breakdown have been repaired and re-tested according to a passed norm.

Once the car has been corrected, an inspection date must be arranged directly with the Eastcroft MOT Station on 0115 915 2008 for a new test. The licence will be sent to the addressee indicated on the application form within 2 week of the car having passed the test, and if it is a personal car, you must lodge the licence with the company you work for.

When Hackney Carriage, this should be kept by the owner/owner of the car.
