A number of flights, sightseeing and charters are available.
Though the Alaska Marine Highway System no longer operates Seward, it does serve areas around us like Kodiak and Homer. More than 320,000 cruises pass through Seward every year. Welcome to a wide range of ships, Seward provides inland navigation as well as angling, charters, mooring, yachting and a dock.
Carriers/Cargo: Inter- and intra-state trucks and day-to-day cargo handling are offered by City Express, Two dogs and Carlile Enterprises. Throughout the year Seward Business Lines provide a day-to-day transport connection to Anchorage. Taxi and shuttles are offered year round and seasonal, as is our locally based elderly care as well.
Highways:: Known as the National Garden By Way, the Seward Hwy offers year-round brick road to Anchorage, 125 mile north, and the Sterling Hwy to the West offers brick road to the remainder of the Kenai Peninsula as far as Homer. The Seward Marine Industrial Center (SMIC)Large vessels can now be repaired and maintained in our state-of-the-art dry dock and yard facilities.
Situated in the Seward Marine Industry Center opposite Resurrection Bay just west of Seward, these yards provide over 60 hectares of rentable high ground to help your company. Although local authority lease contracts are predicated on commercial value, the municipality has used various instruments to promote sustainable urbanisation, such as labour and/or equity investments in incentives, corporate debt and property sales.
Facilities, utilities, schools and healthcareOur premium grade wells supply and treat our customers' needs from nine wells and distribute them through Seward. Garbage is collected by the city under a contractual agreement, and the Kenai Peninsula district ensures the management of municipal solids through its garbage transport facilities. The company has its own electricity plant and receives electricity from Chugach Electr.
Downtown also has a 15-MW generator system for backup emergencies. Locally run by the city, the Providence Seward Medical Center manages the hospitals. Also Seward has 1 municipal and 2 other hospitals operated by the North Star Health and Glacier Family Medicine Areas. At Seward we also have a long-term nursing home named Seward Mountain Haven, which provides nursing services for the aged, based on the greenhouse concept.
