Whilst a few former Western Motor Show partners, Cadillacâ??s Don Lee and Packardâ??s Earl C. Anthony, have remained well known in todayâ?"s vintage vehicle communities, a number of key partners have disappeared from our memories, including Buickâ??s Charles S. Howard and DeSotoâ??s James F. Waters. It' s well known that Lee and Anthony ran their own in-house auto bodies divisions, but few know that San Francisco-based James F. Waters, a San Francisco-based dealership owner of James F. Waters, ran his own auto bodies, a company so large that a Detroit factory was needed to run the operation.

Born in 1895 to a large extended household in Waterbury, New Haven County, Connecticut. Among his brethren were a sibling, Josephine, and four brethren, John T., Robert A., William, and Harry L.aters. Following a period of reconnaissance, Mr. Guido added to the military efforts of the US Army Air Corps as a flying teacher during the First World War. Here, he was responsible for the training of the US Army Air Corps.

Following the armistice, he allegedly went to San Francisco as an airplane vendor, but the Air Corps' excess supplies far surpassed market demands, trying to sell used cars. John T. Waters, his older son, went westwards to join him.

At this point, two other Waters brothers, Robert A. and William, had teamed up with their John T. in James F. Waters Inc., already the nation's biggest distribution company for Waters products: ?s In mid 1933 Waters bought 350 new DeSotos and Plymouths from the New York based distribution company. Automotive topics reported: For the first year in the automotive industry's past decade, a New York harbour ship carrying a car dealer's company ensign was sailing last year.

From the top of the pole, the flags of James F. Waters, San Francisco De Soto-Plymouth merchant, took off to charter 350 De Soto-Plymouth automobiles across the Channel to the West Coast.
