For last minutes flights in the USA there are few or no goodies. At the end of the journey, you must land in either Dallas or LA. To have a better selection of airline companies, schedules and fares, I would keep the internal flights separate. If you don't want to waste your free moment in one or both of these towns, it doesn't really play a role.

Nobody here would suggest a Texas land to take a ride to the Grand Canyon and to LA! Phoenix, Arizona is the nearest Arizona to the Grand Canyon and the nearest major intercontinental city. Vegas, Nevada is the nearest town.

One of your answers says you want to do Vegas, Hoover Dam and G Canyon. Fifteen years ago we did this and flown British Airways to Phoenix, which made a great stopover and a nice ride to the canyon possible. Whatever you choose, please feel free to spend one of our most unforgettable days.

When you fly to A, then do other things for a few whole day and later fly out of A, or A, or C, or B, or C, a pass might be the best or not. In addition, it can often be useful to look at "open jaw", multi-city passes to avoid tracking back, fly from A to C, then travel by all means and fly out of C, back to A.
