Airways is planning to order 75 new Boeing aircraft valued at 7.5 billion dollars.

According to the US-based aircraft manufacturer, Jet Airways is likely to order 75 Boeing 737 Max aircraft with a value of over 7.5 billion US dollars. Mr. Dinesh Keskar, Senior Vice President (Sales), Asia Pacific and India, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said to BusinessLine that carriers in India have ordered several hundred aircraft. This includes 75 Boeing 737 Max aircraft from Jet Airways, 155 Max from SpiceJet, 787-9 from Jet Airways, four 787-8 and three 777 from Air India.

"We have always said that we are the dominating actor in wide-body aircraft," said Keskar. Boeing continued to see significant expansion for India's civil aerospace industry, he said. "The main drivers we are seeing - currency rates, petrol prices and airline viability - all continue to be favorable and we are optimistic that the Indian civil aircraft industry will grow strongly," Keskar said.

Boeing is expecting more than 100 million domestic air travelers this year. Boeing's latest market outlook for India in 2016 predicts that almost 1,850 new aircraft worth 265 billion US dollars will be needed in India over the next 20 years. Singles aisles such as the next-generation 737 and 737 MAX will remain the mainstay of new aircraft sales, while widebody aircraft such as the 787 Dreamliner and the 777 familiy will remain the remaining major items in order.

"We look forward to supplying several more 787 Dreamliner to Air India this year and the 737 MAX to SpiceJet and Jet Airways in 2018." His 737 MAX range is built on the next-generation 737's continued popularity, he said. 737 MAX will provide 20 percent less mileage than the first next-generation 737 and the lower running cost in its category - 8 percent less than its closest rival.
