The taximeters all have a fully automated meter that is maintained and monitored by Transport for London. Measured fares are shown to you at all hours during the ride and ensure that costs are fairly and transparently calculated.

There' s also the legend that mini cabs are often less expensive than taxis - this is not true, and since there is no rule on the price of mini cabs, the owner can calculate what he wants for you. There is no knowledge transfer for mini cab riders, so the trip takes longer and costs more.

London Taxi Tariffs

It shows average fares and travel time for three different fares depending on mileage. Tariffs and travel time may be higher in case of delay or busy travel. There' always a floor of £2.20. Measuring device will calculate max fares on the basis of: Passengers are required to reimburse the full price shown on the counter at the end of the trip, unless the rider and passengers have agreed on the definitive price which will be invoiced prior to departure.
