Taxis of Canada are licenced by Canadian communities, but they are held and run by either privately held businesses or simply individuals. The majority of taxis are large limos with different colors and home furnishings. Saloons are usually dark and mostly Lincoln Town Car (and Lincoln Continentals in the past). Taxis in Greater Toronto can be run within the GTA, but are permitted in the community where the company is located.

Cabins are necessary to affix a metallic sign with the registration number on the back of their vehicle. While there are a few businesses in the York Region and Peel Region that are licenced, most are operating out of Toronto. Limousines may disembark at Toronto Pearson International Airport, but they cannot collect fare without extra permission.

Since 2007, the City of Toronto Act has limited the collection of taxis and limousines in Toronto, unless they are approved for operation in the city[5][6] Taxis & limousines can be prearranged with child seats at Pearson International Airports.

The Toronto Airport limousines use Flatrates that have been approved by the Greater Toronto Airport Authorities. That Lincoln Town Car, Toyota Camry and Chevrolet Impala are the most beloved species of cabs in Toronto. Toronto, like many other major towns, is moving to a mixed taxi collection with large orders of Toyota Prius and Toyota Camry hybrids, similar to those in New York City.
